The Covid-19 virus, also known as the Coronavirus, was first encountered in November 2019 and has gone on to affect over 4million people in over 150 countries around the globe. The nature of the virus’s method of transmission has affected our way of life in an unprecedented manner, resulting in a semblance of a total global shutdown. This has significantly impacted the supply chain for medical products around the world, prompting shortages of certain critical supplies and tools globally.

This poses a great risk to health workers who are at the frontline of the pandemic. To help protect the essential health workers in Nigeria, Griot Studios, in partnership with CyberLogik Foundation have developed 3D printed Face Shields that can be used to support their tireless efforts to keep us safe. We’re indebted to all essential workers who are doing their jobs during this critical time, despite the risks. Face shields are simple, transparent screens that cover the face and help prevent infectious droplets from entering the eyes, nose and mouth. So far, we have donated our 3D printed Face Shields to;

1) NNPC Medical services: The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Medical Services have been working closely with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, which was the first isolation center designated for the Federal Capital Territory.

2) Masks for Nigerian Medics: Masks for Nigerian Medics are raising funds and gathering resources to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect healthcare workers against Coronavirus and other communicable diseases whilst caring for patients.

3) Peak Wellness Center : Peak Wellness Center caters to the health needs of the most at risk demography affected by the virus, retirees and the elderly.

The past months have shone a light on the power of human creativity and collaboration. We are vividly reminded that in times of need, every bit of help counts and that we’re at our best as a society when we come together around a common mission. We’re encouraged at the mobilization we’ve seen around the world – with governments, businesses, NGO’s and individuals going above and beyond to do their part to beat this scourge. We are all in this together, and Griot Studios will continue to do all we can to help protect lives and get the world through this crisis, because if we are going to beat this thing — and we are — it will take a concerted and united effort.
